After a nearly 65-year climb to the top of the bridal industry, Priscilla of Boston has decided to close its famous doors to business. By Dec. 31, the company’s 19 salons across the U.S. will close and all current orders will be filled, according to the website. The move reportedly comes in an effort to devote all of Priscella of Boston’s resources to its parent company, David’s Bridal, to support and continue to promote David’s growth as an industry leader.
PoB began in 1945 when Priscilla Kidder opened The Bride’s Shop on Newbury Street in Boston. In almost no time, Priscilla made a name for herself in celebrity bridal couture, designing Grace Kelly’s bridesmaids dresses and Presidential daughter Tricia Nixon’s wedding gown. The PoB portfolio is quite large and hosts a variety of brands such as Platinum by Priscilla and Melissa Sweet, both of which will be discontinued in the shut down. And with this, we bid a farewell to a Boston icon!
And we’re not talking about Uncle Bob’s chest. We’re thinking of our favorite companions; the ones that greet you every time you walk through the door; the ones that get overly excited for a small treat; the ones we snuggle and cuddle with – our dogs!

Pet policies are different for every venue in Boston. Some of the local venues, such as Boston Harbor Hotel, Liberty Hotel, Fairmount Hotel, Hyatt Regency Boston, Nine Zero Hotel, are all pet friendly. So you can have your furry friend for the ceremony portion of the wedding. Regretfully, they will not be able to attend the reception so there are usually designated hotel room floors for pets. Check with the specific hotel to see what the overnight fee and room policies are for pets.
You can also incorporate your dog into the wedding by having them as the ring bearer! It’s best to have them walk down the aisle with someone though. Imagine how many “Awwwww!” comments you’d get having a kid ring bearer walking the dog with a pillow attached.
Now that wedding season is in full swing, those invitations are beginning to pile up. While wedding dress codes will forever be confusing, summer dress codes become complicated by the scorching sun. Questions like, “Are cocktail dresses appropriate for a formal wedding?” and “How casual is this beach wedding going to be?” will frequently arise. Use the lingo given to you on your invite and follow these few pointers so you aren’t that one who shows up to a daytime semiformal wedding in a beaded black ball gown.
- long gowns
- tuxedos or black suits
- silk chiffon or silk crepe material floor length dress
- usually held in a ballroom
- knee length cocktail dresses
- matching suits
- “big night out” dresses
- knee length dresses
- lightweight cotton dresses
- country club attire
- sport coat and dress pants
- usually held at a country club or garden
- blazers and khakis
- usually held on the beach, backyard or barns
Being the savvy girl that I am, I’m always on the lookout for the best deals possible. Today I’ve come across a special for Lash L’amour on Rue La La. It’s one of Hollywood’s best kept celebrity secrets and now they’ve made their way here to the East coast, Newton to be exact. Whether you’re looking for natural everyday lash extensions to especially dramatic wedding day lash extensions, they do it all. Speaking from experience, I’ve had lash extensions done before and they are the greatest especially in the summer months where you can step out of the house without mascara and liner! Also a plus for swimmers and beach/poolside bums like myself.
There are 3 buying options:
1. $97 for a full set of natural lash extensions
2. $147 for a full set of dramatic lash extensions
3. $298 for five lash refills
So ladies, jump on this deal while it’s hot. Extensions last about 8 weeks and you can redeem this anytime between today and December 23, 2011. Visit Rue La La now to get all the details on this great steal!
I was looking for something comfy for my feet for the end of the night/dancing time. I was trying to decide between flip flops and flats since I could live in both then decided it would make more sense for me to wear flats since they will probably stay on better. I remembered seeing these flats you can bend and store in a little bag at Burberry. Super cute, but not worth it for $200! I’ve also seen similar flats at H&M and GAP and decided these would be the best choice since I won’t have to worry about ruining them for the price I’m paying for them. I was definitely sold on the convenience of these flats since they bend and can be stored just about anywhere. I’m sure I’ll make good use of these during my bachelorette party too!! After months of searching, I’ve narrowed it down to two…
Cosco Como Ballet Flats from Bloomingdales (I love the gold)
Dr Scholl’s Fast Flats from Target (I love the price…10 bucks!)
Hopefully I can try on both, so I can pick up a pair before the wedding. These also make great bridesmaids’ gifts!
As if you needed anymore reason to visit London, it has just been announced that the Duchess of Cambridge’s breathtaking wedding dress will be on public display at Buckingham Palace from July 23rd until October 3rd. Of course, nothing in London is free, so visitors need to pay $29 for entrance into the palace. Upon entering guests will see the must-see state rooms, public rooms and select art pieces from the Queen’s private collection. Joining the classics at the palace is the custom made Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen long sleeved lace creation. This exhibit will also include the veil, custom diamond earrings from her parents, tiara borrowed from the Queen and Alexander McQueen shoes, however, the famous engagement ring that previously belonged to the late Princess Diana, will remain on Kate’s hand. Sorry folks!

Brides Against Breast Cancer is coming to Boston this weekend! A gown sale AND a great cause = Awesome! Beautiful gowns donated from hundreds of designers to help raise funds for those battling against breast cancer through Making Memories. Gowns range from $99 – $799 with values up to $8000.

And get comfy! Flip flop baskets at weddings are always a great treat for guests who have been standing all day in those uncomfortable shoes! It was hard enough walking on the grass with those heels; now you have to dance with them?
Old Navy is having their annual $1 Flip Flop Sale this Saturday, May 21, 2011. The Old Navy in Boston’s South Bay is opening at 7am so make sure to arrive early! Depending on how many guests you’re having, you’ll want to figure out how many pairs to get (unless there’s none left and you snatch up what you can) and what sizes. Not everyone will use the flip flops but it’s best to get enough to fill two baskets with sizes ranging from 5 – 10 (in case the guys want to dance the night away too). Limit is 5 pairs per customer so bring your wedding party to shop with you!
I love the look of the flower in the bride’s hair on her big day. It’s so simple and elegant, but it makes such a huge statement. It is a great headpiece to have in addition to the veil or even as an alternative to the veil. The types of flower headpieces span such a wide range that every bride could find one to fit their personality. The versatility of the flower could also work with different bridal hairstyles, whether it’s an up-do or a simple sweep to the side. While on the search for my own flower headpiece, I came across the designs from Tessa Kim and absolutely loved them! Check out my two favorites below!
